Antique French Ribbonwork Boudoir Box - Mauve, Gold Lace & Rococo Ribbon Trim
Dating to the early 1900s to 1920s, may I offer this Art Deco French Boudoir Box - Trinket Box. From a non-smoking/pet-free home, this lovely hexagonal lidded box starts with a cardboard base which is covered in a pinky-mauve fabric. The cloth is then covered in gold lace, embellished with silver-grey lace and gold braid. The top of the box is further embellished with a ribbon bow with a pair of handmade ribbon roses with yellow stamens at the center; green ombre ribbon leaves complete the design. Open the lid to reveal a very clean (though slightly dusty on the inside) fabric lining and a hexagonal bit of mirror which displays age marks (no breaks or cracks). The bottom of the box is covered in paper and is quite clean. Size is about 5-7/8" across x 2-1/4" deep. That's it, the look of the piece is most pleasing and there is no wear or holes that I can spot. The box displays all age of 100 years - darkened patina, dust that has filtered into the fabric and flattened French ribbonwork; in other words, a terrific Shabby Chic appearance. While you can still find boxes like this on the Internet, finding one in such a design AND condition as this is a bit harder to find. Look for more pieces from the 10-piece set soon.
NOTE: Most collectors leave well enough alone when it comes to Art Deco vanity pieces. Cleaning could be attempted but I would recommend proceeding with caution. While the lace and ribbon may "perk up" with color, the sugar pip stamens would definitely disintegrate and the fabric might bleed.
