Antique Victorian 14K Gold Pearl Locket with Hand Painted Enamel Fairy
Antique Victorian 14K Gold Pearl Locket with Hand Painted Enamel Fairy
Dating to the late 1880s or so, may I offer this 14K Gold (yellow and rose - tested, not marked) locket pendant. Featuring a handpainted enamel or porcelain fairy to the front, the oval is surrounded by natural pearls strung on wire. As such, they move around a touch and sometimes there are small "gaps" in the line. Open the locket from the right to reveal an empty side on the left (displaying a mother of pearl panel - for a lock of hair or small token) and a glass cover/original fabric on the right. Close the piece, turn it over and you will an engraved panel with the initial B; this panel is loose (not soldered) and will come off but I don't want to do this myself as I might not be able to get it on again. What is UNDER the panel is anyone's guess. From top of bale to bottom measures 1-3/4"; width is 1-1/8" side flourish to side flourish. Weight is 9.2 grams. The enamel panel is unsigned but the artistry is amazing. Beautiful condition with no real problems I can spot. For its age, it is absolutely beautiful.
